L. Lamor WilliamsLITTLE ROCK (May 9, 2018) – The City of Little Rock wants to alert area business license holders to a potential phishing threat. Phishing is the fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable sources in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.
Any business license holder that receives an email from OneDrive is advised to delete it without opening the link. This website has been reported as unsafe. This website has been reported to Microsoft for containing threats that might reveal personal or financial information stored on computers.
OneDrive has sent Business Closure Forms via email to some City of Little Rock Treasury accounts. However, no completed Business Closure Forms have been processed as a result of this action.
Email addresses were accessed through the City’s public online database. The data that may have been captured is readily available to any member of the public via Freedom of Information Act request. No system data and/or financial information has been compromised.
In response, the City of Little Rock has removed account numbers and email addresses from the online database as a future precaution. However, as public records, the information remains available through the Freedom of Information Act.
While there is no way of identifying how many of the approximate 13,000 files may have been affected, the City has received about 20 phone calls regarding the email since Friday, May 4. Removal of email addresses and other information from the online database took place on Tuesday, May 8.
Any Little Rock business that receives such a notice or to confirm any account information with concerns may contact the Treasury Management Division at 501-371-4438 or 501-371-4567. Inquiries may be sent via email to LRTreasury@littlerock.gov.
