LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Jan. 21, 2016) – The City of Little Rock is preparing for the blast of winter weather that is poised to move into central Arkansas over the next 24 hours.

In the Public Works Operations division, nearly 50 employees will be working a 12-hour late shift, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. At 6 a.m., a new crew of around 90 employees will be on hand to clear City streets. Crews will work day and night on 12 hour rotating shifts until streets are clear.  Public Works Operations will utilize 16 trucks equipped with spreaders and plows and two motor graders. The sand/salt mixture used on ice- and snow-covered is stored at three locations spread around the City, giving crews quicker access.

Crews working the snow routes begin with bridges and overpasses and emergency service infrastructure, which includes police, fire, MEMS, and hospitals. Next the major arterial roads and collectors will be plowed, followed by minor arterial roads and streets.

The City’s Communications Center is expected to keep 311 open during normal hours to assist with any weather-related calls.

The City will share updates on Twitter first, then Facebook, and on littlerock.gov.
