Luis Gonzalez | (o) 501 371 4421 | (c) 501 804 4822LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Aug. 6, 2014) – The City of Little Rock has officially notified owners of the Acme Motel that the property will be closed down by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8. Current occupants will have a 48-hour window to vacate.
The Little Rock Fire Department conducted a safety inspection of the facility on July 31. During the inspection, officials discovered numerous code violations resulting in a hazardous environment and unsanitary living conditions.
“The hazards in this complex represent a threat to all occupants, emergency responders and the citizens of Little Rock,” said Gregory Summers, Little Rock Fire Department chief. “The assessment prompted our recommendation to close down the facility and prevent occupancy until all code requirements are satisfied.”
Bruce Moore, City of Little Rock city manager, emphasized the importance of a proactive approach in situations like this one.
“The City of Little Rock ensures that occupants in commercial establishments have access to safe and adequate living environments,” said Moore. “If those quality-of-life standards are not met, we have a duty to take immediate preventative actions.”
City staff will be available on Thursday and Friday to assist any current occupants desiring transitional help. Additionally, the Little Rock Police Department will offer increased surveillance of the area while members of the City of Little Rock Department of Housing and Neighborhood Programs secure the facility.
The Acme Motel is located at 3301 W. Roosevelt Rd.
