CITY OF LITTLE ROCK MARKS “TOPPING OUT” OF 12TH STREET POLICE STATION

LITTLE ROCK – Marking a milestone in the construction of the 12^th Street LRPD Station, City of Little Rock officials and community leaders from around the area gathered for a “topping out” ceremony Monday.

The new $11.9 million station will serve as a key anchor along the 12th Street Corridor, and is part of a comprehensive plan that has been laid out to combat decades of urban decay. It is expected that the addition of the station will bring additional private investment to the area which sits between Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the new Hillary Rodham Clinton Children’s Library.

“This is an exciting occasion for Little Rock as we continue to implement more localized public safety plans,” said Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas. “We’ll soon be calling 12^th Street our new home, with officers coming to work right here in the neighborhood.”

At the ceremony, city officials and community leaders signed their names to the beam that was then lifted into position at the apex of the building’s frame. 

“This beam is part of a building that will soon house the police officers charged with keeping this community safe,” said Little Rock City Manager Bruce T. Moore. “The construction of this station is one more example of our commitment to improving public safety in Little Rock.”

The 44,276 square foot building will eventually house community rooms and possible retail space that could accommodate a clinic, bank, restaurant or other establishment that will further improve the quality of life along the corridor.

“I am proud to see the renaissance of our community,” said Ward 2 Director Ken Richardson. “The 12^th Street Station along with other investments along the 12^th Street Corridor will create jobs and make our neighborhoods safer for all that live and work here.”

East Harding – Adevco Construction are managing the construction of the station. RPPY Architects designed the building and streetscape improvements. There will be some temporary traffic alterations for the next year to allow construction crews access to the site with minimal impact to residents.
