LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 16, 2014) – The City of Little Rock is hosting a “Rock the Block” event in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County and the Love neighborhood Association on Saturday, Oct. 25. Volunteers will revitalize this neighborhood by weatherizing residences, painting 20 houses, adding landscaping and cleaning yards. Participants will also implement small exterior construction projects.

Coordination and planning for the event started during the summer. The Love Neighborhood Association worked with residents to identify leaders from each street within this southeast Little Rock community.

The neighborhood association also partnered with a local school to create “art barrels” that will be placed in the community. Instead of using regular trash cans, the barrels take advantage of the neighborhood’s unique name – Love. The art barrels will be placed in the neighborhood’s community garden and by a new CATA bus stop.

Little Rock residents interested in participating in this neighborhood revitalization project can pre-register by sending an email to loveneighborhoodassociation@yahoo.com. Registration on the day of the event will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Garland Elementary School, located on the corner of 24th Street and Valentine Street. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own tools. Lunch will provided.

This “Rock the Block” event is sponsored by Central Arkansas Water, the City of Little Rock, Entergy, First Security Bank, Habitat for Humanity, the Love Neighborhood Association and Valspar Paint.
