War Memorial to Re-Open in August with Champion Ultradwarf Bermudagrass

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 20, 2016) – War Memorial Golf Course will be temporary closing this summer to allow for the installation of world-class grass.

The course is scheduled to close May 9 and re-open August 12. Improvements will consist of converting the putting green and greens on holes 1 through 18 from Tifdwarf Bermudagrass to Champion Ultradwarf Bermudagrass. A nursery green will also be constructed. Contours on some greens will be modified to compensate for the increased green speeds that will result from the change in grass type.

With the exception of greens 13 and 14, which were relocated in 2010, the golf course hasn’t received any improvements in more than 20 years.

“Golfers will get to experience a significant improvement in the putting quality,” said Parks and Recreation Director Truman Tolefree. “The appearance of the greens will also be greatly enhanced by the this type of Bermudagrass, one of the most popular putting surfaces in the South.”

The City of Little Rock’s other public golf courses, Rebsamen and Hindman, have already converted to Champion Ultradwarf Bermudagrass.
