Citizens Police Academy Class Starts January 31)

Residents wanting to learn about law enforcement — from community-oriented policing to the special traffic accident reconstruction team — can take part in a free eight-week class from the Little Rock Police Department that begins this month.

The Citizens Police Academy will run 6 – 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday from January 31 through March 21 at the Hillary Clinton Library, 4800 W. 10th St.

Led by Officer Michelle Hill, the classes cover topics such as how police work within the community, personal awareness, public safety, victim assistance and crime scene investigations.

“We take a very interactive approach to these classes,” Hill said. “Residents come away from this experience with first-hand knowledge of what we do as a police department, and equally important to us, build strong and lasting bonds with our staff and other participants.”

The classes provide an overview of the different divisions within the department as well as safety pointers.

There have been special Citizen Police Academy classes for clergy members, women, Hispanic residents, and those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Those interested in participating can contact Officer Hill at mhill@littlerock.gov or 501-918-5369.
