(Little Rock – April 7, 2009) Due to family considerations, Deputy Chief Gary Ludwig of Memphis Fire Services has withdrawn as a candidate to be the next Little Rock Fire Chief. Chief Ludwig was scheduled to be in Little Rock later this week for his interview.

As a result of Chief Ludwig's withdrawal, the public reception scheduled for Thursday, April 9, at Curran Hall has been cancelled.

“Chief Ludwig was very complimentary of the City of Little Rock and the Little Rock Fire Department,” said City Manager Bruce T. Moore. “But due to family considerations, he called on Monday and withdrew. While I looked forward to visiting more with Chief Ludwig in this Fire Chief selection process, I certainly understand his decision.”

Three other finalists for the position of Fire Chief have been interviewed. The City Manager and public met with Little Rock Interim Chief Greg Summers and Assistant Chief Don Kinney last week. Fort Worth Deputy Chief Jerry Brooks was interviewed earlier this week.

“There are three strong finalists still under consideration to be the next Fire Chief of Little Rock,” Moore said. “With Chief Ludwig’s withdrawal, the interview portion of the selection process has concluded. I will continue my deliberations, as well as seek input from various constituencies who met with the Chief candidates.”

“I expect to announce my choice to be Little Rock’s next Fire Chief in the near future,” Moore concluded.
