Halfway There: Creating Place through an Architecture of Meaning
(LITTLE ROCK, AR) – Reese Rowland will present the Art of Architecture lecture Halfway There: Creating Place through an Architecture of Meaning, Tuesday, May 5, 2009. The event will be held at the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies at 6 p.m.
University of Arkansas School of Architecture Alum Reese Rowland will discuss his design philosophy and the importance of finding meaning in each new project. Rowland will speak about his design approach of allowing natural light to enliven spaces, while reducing dependence on generated energy. This lecture will explore bringing an organization’s vision to fruition through architectural design.
Rowland, a native of Paris, Ark., is a Design Principal with Polk Stanley Architects, LTD. in Little Rock. He has designed some of Little Rock’s most recognizable buildings, most notably Heifer International’s World Headquarters. The headquarters has been published in major architecture journals worldwide, received the AIA National Institute Honor Award for design and was named by the National AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) as one of the Top Ten Green Projects in the country for 2007. Rowland’s design work has received over 25 national, regional and state design awards, including two prestigious American Architecture Awards from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.
The Art of Architecture Lecture Series is presented by the University of Arkansas School of Architecture, Central Arkansas AIA, the Arkansas Arts Center and the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies. For additional information, call 501-372-4000.
