Free Program to be Held for Arkansas Businesses Wishing to Work with Growing African Market
(Thursday, March 20, 2008) – Plans were announced today for the Arkansas-Africa Trade and Business Conference. It will be held on the UALR campus on March 27 and touring various sites throughout the state on March 28.
According to conference organizers, the conference is free and open to all businesses in the state of Arkansas wanting to look at trade and business opportunities in African countries. But registration is required. For registration information, email at pdickerson@littlerock.gov
Speakers and presenters will include Richard Bell, Secretary of Agriculture for the State of Arkansas; Dr. Joel Anderson, Chancellor of UALR; Mayor Mark Stodola, City of Little Rock; Marvin Baden, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Producer Rice Mills; Dr. Barry Colley, Director of Enterprise Development and HIV Support for Heifer International; Rick Greubel, Group VP and International President, Tyson Foods; Ted McNulty, Director of Aquaculture for the Department of Agriculture for the State of Arkansas; Stanley Reed, President of the Arkansas Farm Bureau; John Shifflett, Vice President of Marketing—Rice Division for Riceland Foods;
Ambassador Koby Koomson, executive director of the African Diplomatic Business and Finance Center in Washington DC, will preside over the conference.
Other ambassadors confirmed to be in attendance include Ambassador Ombeni Sefue, Tanzania; Ambassador Perezi Kamunanwire, Uganda; Ambassador Lorempo Tchabre Landjergue, Togo; Ambassador Hawa Ndilowe, Malawi; Ambassador Serge Momboului, Congo; Ambassador Celestin Niyongabo, Burundi; Ambassador Patrick Nandago, Namibia; and Ambassador Abdoulaye Diop, Mali.
Other embassy officials in attendance will include Mr. Audiofax Choma, Commercial and Trade Attache, Tanzania; and Dr. Siphiwe Mkhize, Director of the Agricultural Section, South Africa.
On Friday the 28th, there will be tours in Pine Bluff of the UAPB School of Agriculture, Fisheries & Human Sciences and the Tyson poultry processing facility and tours in Stuttgart of Producers Rice and Riceland Foods.
