At 2:40 a.m., on August 4, 2023, Southwest Patrol Officers responded to America’s Best Value Inn in reference to a cutting. Prior to arrival, Emergency Communications advised the caller stated his wife fell on a knife. When officers arrived, they discovered Romesha Simmons on the floor of room 133 with injuries consistent with a stabbing. MEMS arrived and transported her to an area hospital for further treatment. Officers made contact with the caller Tadese Patrick while subsequently securing the scene. Mr. Patrick was transported him to the Major Crimes Division. Ms. Simmons later died as a result of her injuries. Homicide Detectives responded. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner transported the body of Ms. Simmons to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the next of kin was notified. 

The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives and a preliminary investigation began. Detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance. After being questioned by detectives, Mr. Patrick was charged with First Degree Murder. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Southwest Division.
