Southwest Patrol Officers responded to a shooting at 4 Birdie Lane on Tuesday July 30, 2024, at 1:59 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located 39-year-old Shina Holmes suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. MEMS responded and despite attempting life-saving measures, Mrs. Holmes died at the scene. Officers secured the scene and notified Homicide Detectives. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner transported the deceased body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and next of kin was notified.
The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance. During the course of the investigation, 42-year-old Earnest Holmes was developed as a suspect. A short time later, he was located and taken into custody without incident and transported to Major Crimes for further investigation. After questioning, Mr. Holmes was charged with Capital Murder, two counts of Terroristic Act and Possession of a firearm by a certain person. He was then transferred to PCRJ without incident. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Southwest Division.
#Update: On July 29, 2024, 42-year-old Earnest Holmes was taken into custody and charged with Capital Murder and (2) Terroristic Act.
