Twelfth Street Patrol Officers responded to a shooting call for service at 2106 Oak Street on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Officers arrived to find 25-year-old Khalila Martindale Jr., suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. RESCUE responded; however, Mr. Martindale was pronounced dead at the scene.  Officers secured the area and notified Homicide Detectives. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner responded and transported the deceased victim to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy and next of kin was notified.

The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance. During the investigation, 24-year-old Eric Davis along with 23-year-old Marquis Smith and 21-year-old Evelyn Alexander were developed as suspects in the incident. They were taken into custody and transported to the Major Crimes Division and after questioning, Mr. Davis and Ms. Alexander were charged with Capital Murder; and Mr. Smith was charged with Capital Murder and unrelated narcotics charges. The suspects were then transported to PCRJ without incident. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the 12th Street Division.
