LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 3, 2015) – The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded the 12th Street Station LEED silver certification. Under the LEED for New Construction Rating System, the station was identified as a showcase example of sustainable design.

The 12th Street Station is the first LEED Silver Certified energy-efficient structure the City of Little Rock has built. It provides natural lighting, water treatment techniques and other energy-efficient measures.

“This building serves as a very strong commitment from the City to help encourage revitalization and economic growth which is long overdue,” said Ward 2 City Director Ken Richardson.

The 12th Street Station was the largest project from the 2011 Little Rock Citizens Evaluations of New Tax (LR CENT) sales tax campaign.  The building symbolizes the City’s efforts to capitalize on 12th Street by creating a corridor of revitalization.

The station is the largest building the City has built in many decades and it encompasses a full city block as a 46,000-square-foot, two-story building.

Most recently, City officials held a public meeting to gather community input on the mixed-use development space available in the 12th Street Station. The building features a 6,000-square-foot mixed-use public facility. The City plans to utilize this space to promote economic development in the 12th Street Corridor.
