On Friday January 10, 2025, at 12:01 a.m., Northwest patrol officers responded to 10923 West Markham Street in reference to an assist medical call for service. When officers arrived, they discovered 38-year-old David Byrd, bleeding from his head. MEMS responded and transported Byrd to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The scene was secured and LRPD Homicide Detectives were notified and responded. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner transported the deceased body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the next of kin was notified.

Homicide Detectives along with the Crime Scene Search Unit were notified and responded. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area, looked for surveillance video, and spoke with witnesses. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Northwest Division.

#Update: On Monday January 13, 2025, Sean David Burkhardt was taken into custody and charged with Capital Murder.
