Registration is underway for summer quarter classes at the Arkansas Arts Center Museum School. Classes begin June 22 and run through August 29, 2009. Registration will continue until classes are filled.

The Museum School offers classes for every age group and skill level. The disciplines include art history, drawing, pottery, painting, woodworking, photography, jewelry, glass, theatre and yoga. Classes are offered on a quarterly basis with day, night and weekend classes.

New offerings this quarter include Saturday Afternoon Pottery Booster Classes, which are taught by local clay artists and designed to expand students’ knowledge in various clay techniques. The Museum School also offers Week Long Art Extravaganzas for ages 2 – 14 and new classes in jewelry, printmaking, painting, black and white photography and woodworking.

Several summer quarter workshops are also available including the new Printmaking: Reduction Woodcut adult workshop held at the Black Box Press Studio in North Little Rock, Ark. In this three-day workshop, printmaking instructor Delita S. Martin will teach students to make multi-colored woodcuts from a single block of wood, which allows participants to build imagery with subtlety and complexity.

Off-site art classes are provided at the Maumelle Arts Council, Black Box Press Studio and Wildwood Park for The Arts. These courses are created to increase the art educational opportunities for children and adults who live inconveniently far from the Arkansas Arts Center.

In preparation for the monumental exhibition World of the Pharaohs Treasures of Egypt Revealed, Work Like an Egyptian: Art History Discussion and Studio Workshop for Children Ages 7-10 will be held to introduce children to the history and art of ancient Egypt. World of the Pharaohs, on view September 25, 2009 – July 5, 2010, features over 200 magnificent objects including mummies and a colossus of Ramses the Great.
