Mobile Guatemalan Consulate to Take Place in Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Sept. 21, 2015) – The City will welcome Consul General of Guatemala Jose Barillas and his staff to Little Rock from Sept. 25 – 27 as they hold a mobile consulate to provide assistance to Guatemalans living in the area.

The mobile consulate will be set up at the Southwest Community Center the following dates and times:

  • Friday, Sept. 25, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The Southwest Community Center is located at 6401 Baseline Road.

The 2010 U.S. Census showed that 6.8%, or nearly 13,000, of people making their home in Little Rock are of Hispanic origin, which includes those of Guatemalan descent. Bringing the mobile consulate to Little Rock will allow Guatemalan residents with the proper paperwork to get passports or consular ID cards.                                                                              

According to officials from the Guatemalan Consulate in Houston, the requirements to obtain a passport include:

  • DPI (Personal Identification Document) or
  • Expired passport and Libreta de Cédula de Vecindad or
  • Birth certificate from RENAP

Fees may be paid with a Money Order or cash:

  • Passport $65.00
  • Consular ID card $25.00


“We are excited to welcome the Guatemalan Consulate to Little Rock and Arkansas,” said City Director Joan Adcock. “They are providing assistance to our residents here who are originally from Guatemala.  If the Consulate did not come here, people would have to visit the Consulate in Houston, Texas, to obtain this assistance.  We look forward to continuing this partnership with return visits in the future.  In the coming months, we expect to host other mobile consulate visits.”
