Luis Gonzalez | (o) 501 371 4421 | (c) 501 804 4822WHAT: City of Little Rock and US Navy officials will unveil the crest of the USS Little Rock, our nation's ninth littoral combat ship. The USS Little Rock (LCS9) is being built for the Navy by Lockheed Martin and Marinette Marine Corporation (MMC), at the MMC shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin.
Later this summer, the Navy will host a launch and christening ceremony in Marinette celebrating the ship's physical transition from land to sea. The ceremony will be a symbolic transition from a hull number to a ship with a name and spirit of its own. In November 2016 there will be a commissioning ceremony when the ship will formally join the Fleet and become sovereign U.S. territory wherever she sails.
The crest unveiling will be the only celebratory event hosted locally.
