Little Rock
Marathon Champion Receives Elite Invitation from the NYC Marathon

(Little Rock – October 10, 2012)

Four time Little Rock Marathon Champion Leah Thorvilson was presented with her race number today by a representative from the New York City Marathon. The world’s most prestigious marathon has invited Thorvilson to compete in an elite category of female racers. Approximately 50 women are allowed to race at that level in New York.

“I feel like I’ve won just by being asked to participate,” said Thorvilson. “I know it sounds corny, but it’s true – I am honored by this invitation. Also, I’m excited to go to New York and represent Arkansas.”

Thorvilson is the women’s Little Rock Marathon Champion from 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.  In January, she competed in the United States Women’s Olympic Trails.

Richard Finn, Director of Media Relations and Sports Strategy with the New York Road Runners, personally presented Thorvilson with her race number today at the Peabody Hotel.

“We are thrilled to have Leah run through the five burroughs and over the five bridges of the New York City Marathon,” said Finn. “We think this will be an amazing experience for her and everyone watching.”

ESPN2 will air the New York City Marathon live on Sunday, November 4th from 8:00-11:30 a.m. The 11th Annual Little Rock Marathon will be held on March 3, 2013.
