Ground Broken Today on New Little Rock Police Station

(Little Rock, AR – July 23, 2013)

City and Community Leaders today celebrated the beginning of a long awaited project to build a new $11.9 million police station on 12^th Street.

“This is more than a building,” said Mayor Mark Stodola. “This is a reflection of the City of Little Rock’s commitment to revitalize this area.”

The new LRPD station will serve as a key anchor along the 12^th Street Corridor. This section of the City has experienced problems associated with urban decay. A comprehensive plan has been laid out to combat those problems and this new police station is a part of that plan.

“I have had a business here for 32 years,” said Denise Johnson, owner of Nisie’s Cosmic Beauty on 12^th Street.  “I have trusted that my investment here would pay off and today it is.  In one year I will have a new neighbor that will spur growth and create a safer environment.”

“We’re using strategic public sector investments to attract private sector investments,” said Ward 2 City Director Ken Richardson.  “This 44,276 square foot multi-use building will soon become a reality.”

Another aspect of the project is streetscape improvements that will help set the stage for future improvements that are part of the award winning 12^th Street Corridor Plan. Part of the funding for this portion is being paid for by a grant from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.    

“Today is a special day for 12^th Street,” said City Manager Bruce Moore.  “It’s a special day for this neighborhood and it’s a special day for this City. “

East Harding – Adevco Construction will start preparing the site over the next week for construction. RPPY Architects designed the building and streetscape improvements. There will be some temporary traffic alterations for the next year to allow construction crews access to the site, but in the long term it will be a great investment.
