Press Release

(Little Rock – September 7, 2011)

The City of Little Rock has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2011 Budget Document. This is the 17th year in a row that the City of Little Rock is recognized by the GFOA for its commitment to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

“I’m very proud of our Finance Department for its budgetary skills,” said City Manager Bruce Moore. “The GFOA is a highly respected organization and their Distinguished Budget Award judges are tough critics. The fact that Little Rock’s budget document meets their high standards is a true testament to the Finance Department’s ability to transparently handle the taxpayer’s money.”

In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well a City’s budget serves as:
• A policy document
• A financial plan
• An operations guide
• A communications device

“We are honored this year to also receive Special Recognition for the Capital Section of the Document,” said Finance Director Sara Lenehan. “In the last year our staff significantly enhanced the overall presentation to ensure that we would meet the strict criteria that the GFOA sets out. This special recognition speaks volumes for the commitment to excellence that our staff embraces.”

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 17,400 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
