On Sunday, June 23, 2024, Patrol Officers with the 12th Street Division responded to a shooting call for service at 523 West 22nd Street. When officers arrived, they located 22-year-old Makylia Matthews suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. MEMS responded and attempted life-saving measures however, Ms. Matthews perished at the scene. Officers secured the scene and notified Homicide Detectives. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner transported the deceased body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and next of kin was notified.

The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Southwest Division.
