Summer Playground Program

Registration for the 2024 Summer Playground Program opens May 1

Little Rock Parks and Recreation invites children and parents from the Little Rock area to join our Summer Playground Program from June 10 to July 25, 2024. Created for children aged 6 to 15, our program is designed to provide a summer filled with enriching experiences and lifelong memories.

We aim to offer a safe and nurturing environment where children can engage in supervised, organized, and meaningful recreational activities while school is not in session. We're also introducing our "Teen Camp," tailored to meet the interests and needs of participants ages 12 to 15.

Our Summer Playground Program features exciting field trips, including bowling, zoo visits, movie outings, skating adventures, archery lessons, and indoor/outdoor activities. Additionally, participants can explore local museums and embark on fishing excursions.

With each field trip carefully planned and supervised by our experienced staff, parents can rest assured that their children will have fun, learn, and grow in a supportive environment. Join us for a summer of adventure and discovery at Little Rock Parks and Recreation's Summer Playground Program!

Activities & Field Trips

The Summer Playground Program on-site activities include checkers, dominoes, chess, cards, board games, jump rope, basketball, kickball, movies, time outside on the playground, arts & crafts, and many more. Field trips will include fishing, swimming, roller skating, movies, visits to the MacArthur Museum of Military History, the Museum of Discovery, the Stephens Nature Center, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Clinton Presidential Library, and an end-of-the-year visit to Main Event.

All of these activities require discretionary participation. Staff members are assigned to remain at the playground for children who choose not to participate in the field trip activities. The only exception is the visit to the Main Event, where the entire staff is needed for supervision.

There are some field trips where we expect large participation, which will prevent us from transporting every child to each field trip. The supervisors at each of our playgrounds are asked to keep a record of which children are participating in each field trip, to ensure that all of the children have equal opportunities to participate if they choose.

Buses from First Student Company will provide transportation for field trips. All other transportation is prohibited. There are additional admission and busing fees for field trips, and a schedule of all trips and associated fees will be distributed to parents upon registration.
