City Adopts New AI Acceptable Use Policy

LITTLE ROCK– Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. today announced the adoption of an Artificial Intelligence policy for the City of Little Rock. This policy establishes guidelines for the responsible use of emerging technology across city operations while strengthening protections for residents’ data and sustaining public trust.

The new AI acceptable use policy creates a framework for city departments to explore and implement artificial intelligence tools that support more efficient operations, improved internal systems, and better access to city services. At the same time, the policy ensures the use of strong safeguards for privacy, security, and accountability.

An AI Committee led by the Department of Information Technology will review and approve AI tools before they are implemented and provide oversight on how the technology is used across city government.

The City uses AI in multiple ways, including through the launch of new website tools designed to help residents quickly find answers to common questions, navigate city services, and access important information anytime.

“Technology continues to shape how cities serve their residents, and Little Rock is committed to embracing innovation responsibly,” Mayor Scott said. “This policy allows us to modernize city operations while protecting the privacy and trust of our residents. Our goal always is to make City government more accessible and responsive.”

Little Rock’s AI policy establishes clear standards for ethical AI use, including human oversight of all AI-generated work, protections against bias, and strict rules governing the handling of sensitive data.

The framework will allow departments to responsibly explore tools that improve productivity and service delivery while ensuring transparency and accountability.
