Elevation Certificates
An elevation certificate shows how high the lowest floor elevation of a structure is compared to how high floodwaters are expected to rise in the same area (same as the BFE height).
Elevation Certificates help insurers assess a property’s flood risk: the higher the first floor of a structure, the less likely is that structure will suffer flood damage during a flooding event. While an Elevation Certificate won’t set insurance rates they may qualify for insurance discounts. Most homeowners do not need an elevation certificate to get flood insurance – except if the house is located in a high-risk flooding area (Zone A or AE). Homeowners in these areas need elevation certificates to verify that their house complies with City of Little Rock municipal codes and building regulations, or if required by insurance companies to verify eligibility of policy discounts and proper rate assessment.
As part of the Community Rating System (CRS) the City of Little Rock has been collecting Elevation Certificates for finished construction structures since 1983.

After submitting a request, the City’s Floodplain Manager may provide a copy of the Elevation Certificate on file.
If you don’t see your address on the list, you will need to hire a land surveyor to complete an elevation certificate for your house.
