Southwest Patrol Officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at 12500 Lawson Road. Vehicle 1 was traveling westbound on Lawson Road, while Vehicle 2 was traveling eastbound. Vehicle 1 failed to negotiate a curve, traveled left of center, and struck Vehicle 2 on the left side. Both vehicles left the roadway and came to a final rest in an embankment south of Lawson Road.
The driver of Vehicle 1, 44-year-old Christy Serwein, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by MEMS.
The driver of Vehicle 2, 26-year-old Allison Burke, was initially unconscious and transported to a local hospital by MEMS. Hospital staff later advised that Burke succumbed to her injuries, which included multiple internal injuries.
A Southwest Patrol Sergeant notified the Reconstruction Unit, which responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The Pulaski County Coroner responded to the hospital and collected toxicology samples from Burke. A urine sample was also collected from Serwein and will be submitted to the crime laboratory for toxicology testing.
Next of kin was notified of Burke’s death.
Both vehicles were impounded, and a hold was placed pending further investigation.
