At 8:55 pm, on Friday, February 28, 2026, patrol officers with the 12th Street Division responded to a shooting at 601 East 9th Street. Officers arrived and discovered 40-year-old Greg Wells suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. MEMS responded and attempted life-saving measures; however, Wells succumbed to injuries at the scene. Officers also located 63-year-old Juan Nieves in the area who stated he shot Mr. Wells. Nieves was detained and transported to the Major Crimes Division. Homicide Detectives and the Crime Scene Search Unit were notified and responded. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner transported the deceased body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and next of kin was later notified. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance. Simultaneously, Nieves was questioned at the Major Crimes Division. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the 12th Street Division.
