History

Interstate Park was developed in 1979 on the site of a former City of Little Rock sanitary landfill, transforming previously unusable land into a major public recreation destination. Located adjacent to the Fourche Creek bottoms, the 71-acre park was designed primarily as a ballfield complex with six lighted softball fields, providing much-needed space for youth and adult athletics. The park takes its name from Interstate 30, which forms its southern boundary.

Over the years, Interstate Park has grown into one of Little Rock’s premier sports complexes, hosting leagues, tournaments, and community events that draw thousands of participants each year. In 2021, the park expanded its recreational offerings with the addition of a public boat ramp providing access to the Fourche Creek Urban Water Trail, creating a unique connection between organized athletics and one of the city’s most important natural resources. Today, Interstate Park stands as an example of how former industrial land can be successfully repurposed into a vibrant public recreation space.
