LITTLE ROCK– The City of Little Rock reopened West Markham Street on Thursday afternoon following the demolition and safe removal of a damaged pedestrian bridge near the intersection of Markham and Dennison streets.
Markham Street between Barton and Thayer streets had been closed to through traffic since July 13 after a large truck struck the bridge. Structural engineers determined the bridge was damaged beyond what could feasibly be repaired.
City officials last week selected a contractor to remove the bridge, and demolition work started Tuesday. The City of Little Rock will consider options for rebuilding the bridge.
