Patrol Officers with the Southwest Division responded to 4201 Holt Street in reference to a shooting call for service at 3:51 am, on April 7, 2026. When officers arrived, they made contact with multiple subjects before discovering 21-year-old Semaj Ellis suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. MEMS responded and performed life-saving medical care while en route to a local hospital. Officers secured the area and Major Crimes detectives along with the Crime Scene Search Unit began an investigation as the area was canvassed and witness statements were taken.
On April 13, 2026, Ellis succumbed to injuries and next of kin was notified. This ongoing investigation was upgraded to a homicide and occurred in the Southwest Division.
