City Offices to Open with Delayed Start on Friday

LITTLE ROCK – City of Little Rock offices will open with a delayed start at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30 because of winter weather conditions.

Residential trash collection resumes Friday, though Friday’s routes may extend into Saturday as trucks use extra caution on roadways. Motorists are asked to give sanitation trucks plenty of space as they navigate streets where ice remains.

On Friday, Public Works Department crews will start their eighth consecutive day of around-the-clock work to clear streets of snow and ice. Main thoroughfares and secondary streets are mostly clear, so crews have moved to neighborhood roads.

The work is more challenging than previous winter storms because of a significant accumulation of packed ice on the roads. Below-freezing temperatures for a prolonged time period make clearing roads more difficult as well. Residents are asked to remain patient as progress continues.

Any residents whose trash and recycling routes have been missed may place excess materials at curbside for collection during their next scheduled pickups. Trash must be bagged, while additional recyclable materials must be placed in cardboard boxes adjacent to recycling carts for collection by WM, the City’s recycling partner.

While trash pickup is scheduled for Friday, WM recycling is canceled. Normal trash and recycling routes will resume on Monday, Feb. 2, and the City’s landfill will reopen to the public at that time. All yard waste and bulky item collection is suspended until Feb. 9.

Little Rock’s temporary, emergency shelter is open nightly through Sunday at Dunbar Community Center, 1001 W. 16th St. The City mobilizes the shelter at 6 p.m., and it is open to anyone who needs a meal and a warm, safe place to stay.

The City coordinates with community partners like Jericho Way to ensure transportation and shelter for unhoused residents during periods when the City’s temporary, emergency shelter is demobilized. In addition, Little Rock’s community centers, including Southwest Community Center and West Central Community Center, are available as warming centers during normal, daytime operating hours.
