LITTLE ROCK – With work continuing to treat and clear Little Rock’s secondary and neighborhood streets, City of Little Rock offices will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 28, because of dangerous road conditions. Essential and emergency city staff will report to work Wednesday under the City’s inclement weather policy.
Public works crews are targeting roadways significantly impacted by multiple rounds of icy precipitation and overnight refreezing. Teams are out in neighborhoods around the clock. Residents are encouraged to use patience and refrain from getting out unless it is absolutely necessary.
Because of the dangerous conditions, trash and recycling services are canceled for Wednesday. Residents may place additional trash in bags at the curb on their next collection day. WM, the City’s recycling partner, will accept additional recyclable materials in cardboard boxes next to recycling carts.
Little Rock’s temporary, emergency cold-weather shelter demobilized this morning for deep cleaning to protect the health and safety of guests. The shelter will mobilize again at 6 p.m. today as an overnight shelter, and it is open to anyone who needs a meal and a warm, safe, place to stay. The shelter is located at Dunbar Community Center, 1001 W. 16th St.
City emergency management personnel are actively monitoring weather forecasts to determine mobilization hours for the emergency shelter. The City coordinates with community partners like Jericho Way to ensure transportation and shelter for unhoused residents during periods when the City’s temporary, emergency shelter is demobilized for cleaning and sanitation purposes.
