City Awards Nearly $30,000 in Grants to Homeless Services Providers

The City of Little Rock announced on Tuesday, the award of nearly $30,000 in grants to local homeless services providers to aid those agencies in the purchase of emergency supplies for sanitation, safety, and protection of public health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Examples of appropriate requests included emergency supplies for the following:

• cleaning and disinfecting,
• food safety,
• proper handling and disposal of waste
• isolating persons in the period of contagion from the rest of the population served by the applicant. 

Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. said such aid is important if the city is to recover from the public health crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s critical for every resident to do his or her part to slow the spread of this disease,” Scott said. “However, it’s important that the City of Little Rock help fill in the gap for organizations that are on the front lines of servicing our brothers and sisters who are even more vulnerable because of housing and food insecurity. These grant funds will be used to provide extremely important services.”

The application process opened March 24 and grants of up to $2,500 were awarded on a rolling basis. Grant recipients and projects are:

Gyst House Inc.	Disinfecting cleaning supplies to protect against the spread of the coronavirus and
Immerse Arkansas	Emergency preparedness bags, hygiene
Lucie’s Place	Disinfecting cleaning supplies to protect against the spread of the coronavirus
Our House, Inc.	Diapers and baby wipes supporting the children staying in the shelter and
Quality Living Center	Disinfecting cleaning supplies, non-contact thermometers, air filters, first aid kits and paper products
St. Francis House	Disinfecting cleaning supplies to protect against the spread of the coronavirus and
Tendaji CDC	Disinfecting cleaning supplies to protect against the spread of the coronavirus.
Union Rescue Mission	Washing machines with a sanitation cycle for the Dorcas House and the Nehemiah House
Women and Children First	Center Against Family Violence requested funding for cleaning supplies and hotel stays
