9201 Kanis Road Homicide

On September 10, 2026, at 1:00 a.m., Northwest Patrol Officers responded to a shooting at 9201 Kanis Road. Emergency Communications advised officers the caller, later identified as 55-year-old Keith Settles, was attacked by his roommate’s boyfriend and he shot him. When officers arrived, they made contact with Settles and took him into custody. Officers then located the victim, 52-year-old Derrick Finley, deceased inside the apartment. The area was secured and Homicide Detectives along with the Crime Scene Search Unit responded and began an investigation. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner transported the deceased body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the next of kin was notified.

The apartment was secured pending a search warrant for processing. After detectives completed witness statements, it was determined this incident would be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for a file review.  Mr. Settles was released without charges pending the completion of the file review. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Northwest Division.
