At 11:41pm, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, patrol officers with the 12th Street Division responded to a ShotSpotter Activation at shooting at 4216 West 25th Street. When they arrived, officers made contact with several witnesses on scene who advised a shooting victim was on the back porch of 4205 West 24th Street. Officers responded and located 44-year-old Derek Johnson suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and attempted life-saving measures; however, Mr. Johnson succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Simultaneously, officers made contact with three more victims of this shooting incident. The residence was secured pending a search warrant for processing. LRPD supervisors responded and notified Homicide Detectives and the Crime Scene Search Unit who arrived to process the scene and begin an investigation. A search warrant was obtained and the scene was processed. The Pulaski County Coroner responded and transported the deceased body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and next of kin was notified. The next-door neighbor, Khalid Alwan, made contact with officers and advised his residence was struck by gunfire. A short time later, officers were also advised a vehicle next door was struck by gunfire. This investigation is ongoing.
