Two Rivers Park

Two Rivers Park is one of Little Rock’s premier outdoor destinations, located at the confluence of the Arkansas and Little Maumelle Rivers. The City of Little Rock manages approximately 450 acres of wooded wetlands, trails, and natural areas on the western portion of the park, offering opportunities for walking, cycling, birdwatching, paddling, and nature exploration. The City’s portion also includes the western terminus of the Arkansas River Trail and provides access to the Little Maumelle River Water Trail. The eastern portion of Two Rivers Park, including the playground and garden area, is owned and managed by Pulaski County.

History

The Two Rivers peninsula has long been recognized for its fertile farmland and strategic location where the Arkansas and Little Maumelle Rivers meet. From 1918 to 1974, much of the property was operated as the Pulaski County Penal Farm, where inmates worked the land growing crops and raising livestock. Following the closure of the prison farm, the area gradually transitioned from agricultural use to public recreation and conservation.

Today, Two Rivers Park is jointly owned by the City of Little Rock and Pulaski County, with each entity managing its respective property. The City maintains approximately 450 acres of primarily wooded wetlands and natural areas, while Pulaski County manages approximately 550 acres of open fields and recreational facilities. Together, the two agencies have created one of central Arkansas’s premier outdoor destinations, balancing conservation with recreation while preserving the natural beauty of one of the region’s most significant river landscapes.
