Heights Promenade

The Heights Promenade is a vibrant public streetscape maintained by Little Rock Parks & Recreation in the heart of the Heights neighborhood. Featuring wide sidewalks, landscaped green spaces, benches, and street trees, the promenade creates a welcoming environment for walking, shopping, dining, and gathering while supporting the area’s locally owned restaurants, boutiques, and businesses. It also serves as a major transit corridor and provides the northern gateway to Allsopp Park, connecting visitors to one of Little Rock’s most popular trail systems.

History

The Heights Promenade occupies land that was once part of Forest Park, a privately owned amusement park that opened in 1904 at the western end of the Pulaski Heights streetcar line. The park featured a theater, dance hall, flower gardens, a zoo, a swimming pool, and wooded walking paths, making it one of central Arkansas’s premier recreational destinations. Following the park’s closure in the 1930s, the surrounding area developed into the Heights neighborhood while retaining its tradition as a destination for shopping, dining, and outdoor gathering.

Today, the Heights Promenade continues that legacy by providing an attractive, pedestrian-friendly public space that connects residents and visitors to local businesses, public transit, neighborhood events, and the natural beauty of Allsopp Park.
