Hanger Hill Park is a neighborhood park serving residents in the historic Hanger Hill community just east of downtown Little Rock. Situated on gently sloping terrain adjacent to the Little Rock Housing Authority neighborhood, the park provides convenient outdoor recreation with a playground, tennis courts, picnic areas, and open space for neighborhood gatherings. Its central location makes it an important recreational resource for nearby residents.
History
Hanger Hill Park was developed in 1973 using funds from a 1965 City of Little Rock bond issue. The park occupies land adjacent to one of Little Rock’s oldest neighborhoods, providing recreational opportunities as the surrounding community continued to grow and evolve.
The park takes its name from the prominent Hanger Hill landform and neighborhood, which trace their origins to the Hanger Addition established by Peter Hanger in 1869. Over time, the surrounding area developed into a working-class residential neighborhood that is now recognized for its historic character, including the nearby Hanger Hill Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the park continues to serve as an accessible neighborhood gathering place for recreation and community connection.
