Centennial Park is a welcoming green space located in the heart of central Little Rock. Surrounded by a dense residential area, the park provides much-needed recreation and gathering opportunities for families and neighbors. Its historic bell tower entrance stands as a landmark, connecting the park to its community roots.
History
The site of Centennial Park was once home to the Centennial Public School, designed in 1894 by local architect Thomas Harding. The school featured a two-story bell tower, which was preserved when the building was demolished in 1971 to create the park.
Development of the park began in 1973 with major funding assistance from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, bringing new recreational amenities to the neighborhood. Today, the preserved bell tower serves as both a focal point and a historical marker for the park.
