Rock Creek Park is a natural corridor that protects the Rock Creek watershed while providing opportunities for walking, running, and enjoying nature in the heart of west Little Rock. The park’s paved and natural surface trails wind through wooded landscapes, crossing bridges and boardwalks as they follow the creek through one of the city’s most heavily traveled commercial areas. Despite its urban surroundings, Rock Creek Park offers a peaceful escape and an important connection between neighborhoods, parks, and the city’s growing trail network.
History
Rock Creek has long been an important natural feature of west Little Rock, shaping the surrounding landscape as the city expanded westward. As residential and commercial development increased, preserving the creek corridor became an important priority for protecting water quality, wildlife habitat, and public access to nature.
Over time, Little Rock Parks & Recreation developed the Rock Creek Trail as a multi-use greenway, creating opportunities for walking, running, and bicycling while preserving the natural character of the creek. The trail continues to evolve as part of the City’s long-term vision for a connected greenway system, with future plans to link Rock Creek to the Tri-Creek Greenway and other regional trail networks, expanding access to outdoor recreation throughout west Little Rock.
