Hindman Park

Hindman Park is a 210-acre community park in southwest Little Rock that combines active recreation with expansive natural surroundings. Set among gently rolling, tree-covered hills along a tributary of Fourche Creek, the park offers opportunities for golf, hiking, organized sports, and outdoor recreation. Its diverse mix of developed amenities and natural landscapes makes Hindman Park a destination for visitors of all ages.

History

Development of Hindman Park began in 1965 with the construction of a ballfield and playground, creating new recreational opportunities for the growing southwest Little Rock community. The park was named after Biscoe Hindman, whose estate contributed $50,000 toward the development of the park. In 1971, with assistance from the U.S. Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, the park expanded to include an 18-hole golf course and clubhouse, establishing Hindman as one of the city’s premier regional recreation destinations.

While the golf course is no longer in operation, the property remains an important part of Hindman Park and has transitioned to support new recreational opportunities and the preservation of its natural landscape.. Today, its forests, creek corridors, and open spaces complement the park’s recreational facilities, providing visitors with opportunities to enjoy both active recreation and the natural beauty of southwest Little Rock.
