History

Remmel Park is named in honor of Pratt C. Remmel, former mayor of Little Rock (1951–1955), civic leader, and longtime advocate for Arkansas waterways and outdoor recreation. Throughout his public service, Remmel championed improvements to the state’s river system and played an important role in advancing waterway development, making the park a fitting tribute to his legacy.

Located along Fourche Creek near the site of the Battle of Bayou Fourche, the park occupies land rich in both natural and historical significance. Over the years, it has become an important recreation area for boating, fishing, and wildlife observation while providing public access to Little Rock’s primary waterways. More recently, the park has served as a key launch point for the Fourche Creek Urban Water Trail, expanding opportunities for residents and visitors to experience the city’s largest urban wetland by kayak or canoe.
