History
For more than 60 years, the Dunbar Community Center has served as an important resource for the surrounding neighborhood, offering youth athletics, senior programming, fitness opportunities, special events, and educational activities. The park continues that tradition by providing accessible outdoor spaces that support recreation and community connection.
One of the park’s defining features is Dunbar Garden, a three-acre urban teaching garden established in 1992. Located adjacent to the community center, the garden has grown into one of Arkansas’s oldest educational urban gardens. Through partnerships with schools, volunteers, and community organizations, it provides hands-on learning experiences while growing fresh produce, promoting environmental stewardship, and increasing access to healthy food for the surrounding neighborhood.
